I’m a composer and sound designer working across desktop and mobile games, as well as a production music writer for multiple publishers. Variety is a big part of what drives me creatively – from scoring an indie game’s soundtrack and bringing alive interactive children’s books to collaborating with the National Theatre of Scotland, I enjoy projects that stretch my artistry in different directions.
My game credits include the chart-topping Score! Hero, award-nominated Pathway, recent hit The Precinct, and the top-rated PC Building Simulator, which hit four million downloads just days after going free-to-play. What I love most about writing for games is how close you are to the development: feedback is fast, collaboration is high, and you immediately feel how your music shapes a player’s experience. Games are uniquely accessible to people of all ages, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see how sound and music bring the gameplay to life.
Highlights from my commissioned work include seeing full orchestras perform my compositions at top recording studios, hearing my writing broadcast on TV and radio, and being selected for major advertising campaigns for brands such as EE, Mercedes, Sky, and BT.
Alongside composing, I’m passionate about supporting and representing other composers – helping their ideas be heard and their careers move forwards. I often speak at conferences and festivals, connecting with and being inspired by like-minded people. I’ve also appeared on panels at Buma Music In Motion and ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event). I currently sit on the PRS for Music Licensing Committee Advisory Group, and I’m a member of the Media Council of the Ivors Academy.
Day to day, I work from my home studio overlooking the Suffolk countryside. Here, I’m surrounded by an ever-growing collection of vintage synthesizers – a passion that fortunately works rather neatly with my day job.
Current and recent directorships: None.
Manifesto
As composers, our rights must be protected whilst media and technology continue to evolve. I am committed to strengthening PRS’s response to these rapid changes – particularly in areas such as AI, where we must firmly safeguard our interests. Through conferences, committee meetings, forums and social media, I see first-hand the challenges facing media writers, and I am compelled to stand up for the protection of our rights.
Being knowledgeable about our rights is crucial. Emerging media writers are particularly vulnerable to unfair buyouts – I’ve been there. I began my career with work-for-hire commissions before joining PRS, and I know the mistakes that can be made early on. Drawing on my involvement in working groups, I want to champion PRS’s values, raise awareness among up-and-coming composers, and ensure all members fully understand their rights.
Another area I am especially passionate about is expanding PRS’s licensing opportunities and royalty collection within the rapidly growing gaming sector – a development that could benefit us all. In my 16 years as a games composer, this industry has become one of the largest segments of the entertainment market. However, the systems for collecting performance royalties within games are still catching up. Music is fundamental to gaming, but we must make the relationship reciprocal. My experience places me in a unique position to advocate for composers working in this space.
I am standing for election to the PRS Members’ Council to help steer us through these challenges: to make rights clear to all, to secure licensing wherever music is performed, and ensure royalties are distributed accurately and promptly.
Please support me with your vote. I stand to represent the interests of us all – our collective voice is our greatest strength.
