Accent Clothing win Fashion Music makeover competition
Indie Leeds retailer Accent Clothing wins first Music Makeover Fashion competition. Special award ceremony included live performances from Luke Tibble, Bianca Gerald and Marsicans.
Much-loved independent Leeds retailer Accent Clothing has been named winner of the PRS for Music national Music Makeover competition, taking home a £5,000 prize to revamp the store for live performances as it continues to support the local scene.
The family-run Accent Clothing, including Martin, Louise, Jack and Becky Schneider, beat more than 130 other retailers to re-style itself into a live haven, with the prize also including expert consultation from producer Steve Levine.
PRS for Music launched the annual Music Makeover competition six years ago to showcase and raise awareness of how important music is to local businesses. Accent Clothing, which was also voted Best Fashion Retailer in Leeds in 2016, is the first winner of the Music Makeover Fashion competition, which was newly launched this year.
As part of the celebrations, PRS for Music hosted a launch party, where rising Leeds act Bianca Gerald, who was dressed by Accent Clothing for this year’s MOBO Awards, and PRS for Music Foundation-supported Marsicans, also from Leeds, performed live upstairs in the revamped store, dressed in Nudie jeans. Guests were also welcomed by a DJ set from Luke Tibble downstairs.
From the quality of the sound system, to acoustics, volume and playlists, music has a huge impact on both customers and staff. Accent feels that music plays a vital role in their business; it’s about how customers interact when they come into store and about creating an environment that they feel welcome in and can relate to on a personal level.
I really liked that Becky and Jack clearly have a great understanding of how music brings business to life. What particularly impressed me was that they are incorporating local artists and talent within their music offering. We love that they care about the wider music community in Leeds alongside their business. Congratulations to the team.
We're absolutely thrilled with the result, winning this competition is a huge deal for Accent Clothing. This will give us the ability to do something that we have wanted to do for years… host high quality live music events in store. With the rise of online shopping it is more important than ever that brick and mortar stores innovate in order to keep customers returning - they have to be a ‘must visit destination’ in their city. Thank you PRS for Music.
