Promoter George Eason hosts more frequent gigs. He set up Showcasing Live Events three years ago and the concept has become a winner with emerging talent and the A&R community. Now a monthly gig, Eason taps into a large network of music industry contacts including promoters, A&R execs and hundreds of artists who can provide tip-offs about other acts.

‘There are lots of things to look at before booking acts for the shows,’ he says. ‘MySpace and Facebook are useful because you can see where an act has played before and what size of following they have. You can also hear their music and hopefully find some footage of live performance.’

Any recent successes?
‘One of the artists at our show said I had to put on a girl called Jessie J, so without hearing her I did and she is just the most amazing vocalist I’ve ever heard – and she’s now been signed to a deal with Island.’. Want to play at your local boozer? Visit our pub gigs page.
