Are you a contemporary classical composer wanting to take your first steps in writing for film & TV? This is a unique opportunity for you.
We’re looking for four composers to take part in New Streams, an exciting new project created to open up the world of writing for screen.
The styles and sounds that make up film and TV soundtracks are becoming increasingly eclectic and many composers are already writing unique, emotive, and sonically rich pieces that have a huge amount of potential in these industries.
PRS for Music is delighted to partner with Riot Ensemble, Pusher and Chris Roe to offer composers the opportunity to adapt one of their existing works for a film, TV and media brief, and gain valuable knowledge of the workings of this industry.
Details of the project
The four successful composers will:
- Work with award-winning composer Chris Roe (Trigger Point, After Love) to adapt an existing composition for screen.
- Have their work professionally recorded by Riot Ensemble.
- Receive mentoring from bespoke composition and sync agency Pusher, who will demystify the process of writing for film, TV, and marketing briefs.
- Retain 100% ownership of their compositions and recordings.
Who can enter?
This project is open to PRS members over 18 years of age but is targeted at contemporary classical composers who have written music for a chamber ensemble of up to eight players (any line-up).
How to enter
To be considered for the development opportunity, you need to submit:
- A score for an original composition for chamber ensemble of up to eight players (any line-up)
- A completed application form (answers should be kept under 200 words)
- A recording or MIDI realisation of the score (if possible)
The judging panel will consist of Aaron Holloway-Nahum (Riot Ensemble), Jacob Wiltshire (Pusher) and independent composers appointed by PRS for Music.
Submissions close Friday 3 February 2023.

Terms and Conditions
2. The Project is open for applications from 10 January 2023. To apply for the Project you must (a) be a current writer member of the Performing Right Society Limited, (b) be 18 years of age or over, and (c) submit your application form and two contrasting notated examples (with recordings, or MIDI realisations, where applicable) of your work to PRS for Music before 17:00 GMT on 3 February 2023 (the “Closing Time”). Applications must be submitted using the application form on the PRS for Music website. Scores and recordings should be provided in the form of publicly accessible links, or sent to PRS for Music using the upload section of the application form.
3. Only one application per person is permitted.
4. PRS for Music does not accept responsibility for applications that are incorrectly submitted or not delivered due to technical faults. Applications received after the Closing Time will not be considered.
5. By submitting an application form and examples of your work, you agree that PRS for Music can share these application materials with the Panel (as defined below) in order to consider your application for the Project. Your application materials will not be used for any other purpose.
6. Each applicant warrants that the works they submit as part of their application are original works and do not infringe any third-party’s rights including a third party’s copyright or moral right, and that they have sought all relevant permissions to submit any works with this application. PRS for Music accepts no liability in the event of third-party claims in respect of any works submitted by the applicant.
7. The four composers provisionally selected for the Project will be chosen by a panel including Chris Roe (composer and Creative Mentor), Aaron Holloway-Nahum (Riot Ensemble), Jacob Wilshire (Pusher) and independent composers appointed by PRS (the “Panel”), on or around 20 February 2023. The four composers will be selected by the Panel based on the compositional merit, skill and suitability evidenced in scores and sound files; and the quality of answers supplied with the application. The decisions of the Panel will be final. PRS for Music reserves the right to replace any of the Panel members with appropriate replacement members if required.
8. The four composers provisionally selected for the Project will be notified by PRS for Music by email or telephone by 27 February 2023 using the contact details provided in their application forms. If a provisionally selected composer(s) does not respond to PRS for Music within three (3) working days of being notified, the Panel will be entitled to select another composer to take their place, based on the criteria set out above or PRS for Music reserves the right to reduce the number of spaces available for the Project.
9. Once the selected composer has accepted their place in the Project, the selected composer shall be entitled to participate in the Project in accordance with the remainder of these terms and conditions as a “Successful Composer”.
10. Each Successful Composer will adapt a musical work in accordance with a provided brief (the “Work”). The deadline for each Successful Composer to submit their finished Work will be 1 June 2023. Finished Works should be submitted to PRS for Music at the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org. You agree that PRS for Music can share your finished Works with Riot Ensemble (as defined below).
11. There will be no transfer of ownership of the Works in connection with the Project.
12. Following the submission of the finished Works, each Successful Composer will have their finished Work performed and recorded by The Riot Ensemble Ltd (“Riot Ensemble”). All rights in the resultant sound recordings of the finished Works shall be owned and controlled by the Successful Composer by way of an assignment from PRS for Music which shall be entered into following completion of such recordings.
15. The opportunity to take part in the Project is not transferable nor exchangeable and no cash alternative will be offered.
16. The Successful Composers will be announced via PRS for Music’s social media pages and/or a Member News Item on PRS for Music’s website and in related media coverage. By applying to participate in the Project, each applicant authorises PRS for Music to disclose their name as part of this announcement and any related media coverage during the course of the Project. Any additional publicity will be agreed between the Successful Composers and PRS for Music during the course of the Project, subject to the Successful Composers entering into an appropriate release form, if required.
17. Any processing of your personal data collected through the application process or otherwise as part of this Project will be in accordance with PRS for Music’s Privacy Notice (which is available at https://www.prsformusic.com/privacy) and these Terms and Conditions. In particular, the relevant terms are set out in: (a) paragraph 5 of these Terms and Conditions regarding the sharing of applications with the Panel members; (b) paragraph 10 of these Terms and Conditions regarding sharing of names, contact details and finished Works with Riot Ensemble; (c) paragraph 13 of these Terms and Conditions regarding sharing of names and contact details with the Creative Mentor; (d) paragraph 14 of these Terms and Conditions regarding sharing of names and contact details with the Commercial Mentor; and (e) paragraph 16 of these Terms and Conditions with regard to the public announcement of the Successful Composers.
18. Other than as expressly stated in these terms and conditions, participation in the Project shall be at the Successful Composer’s own cost and PRS for Music shall not be liable to reimburse the Successful Composer for any additional costs and/or expenses incurred in electing to participate in the Project.
19. Applicants are deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions upon applying for the Project. PRS for Music reserves the right to refuse participation in the Project to anyone who has breached these terms and conditions.
20. This opportunity is not open to employees of PRS for Music, Pusher and Riot Ensemble or their families.
21. PRS for Music reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or amend this opportunity where it becomes necessary to do so. All dates referenced in these terms and conditions are subject to change where required.
22. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales and applicants agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
23. The promoter of this opportunity is PRS for Music Limited, Goldings House, 2 Hays Lane, London, SE1 2HB.
24. Applicants are not required to enter into any commercial agreements with third parties to take part in the Project. If, during or following the Project, a Successful Composer elects to enter into any commercial arrangement with Pusher or any other third party regarding broadcast or digital business or other opportunities relating to their Works or the recordings, Successful Composers are recommended to seek independent legal advice before entering into any such third-party agreements with any third parties.
