Divas top the chart for most performed love song

PRS for Music has compiled the Top 10 Most Performed Love Songs

It’s the most romantic time of year again (apparently) so to give everyone a head start on playlists for the big day, PRS for Music has compiled the Top 10 Most Performed Love Songs (and for those planning a single’s night - the Top 10 Most Performed Singleton Songs) for Valentine’s.

PRS for Music, the organisation that collects royalties on behalf of its 65,000 song writing and composer members, has analysed its unique performance data to work out which songs have been used most across the UK over the past 6 years.

Coming in first place for “love songs” is Leona Lewis and her track “Bleeding Love” which was a world-wide hit when it was released in 2007.  The British superstar beats US divas Whitney Houston and Celine Dion into second and third place respectively.

Their classic tracks “I Will Always Love You” and ‘My Heart Will Always Go On” were both included in soundtracks for the classic romantic movies The Bodyguard and Titanic which no doubt helped them win a place in our hearts and a position at the top of the chart.

Ellis Rich, Chairman at PRS for Music, commented: “The right music for Valentine's Day can help provide a marvellously romantic atmosphere so it makes sense to put a bit of thought into what you play.  Don't just rely on current hits. For myself I like to include a selection of old classics and new music mixed in with a few personal favourites to help create that special ambience.”

“If you are looking for a bit of ‘girl-power’ this Valentine’s then something with good anti-love lyrics and a catchy tune is a must.  I’m sure Gloria Gaynor’s “I will Survive” is stored away carefully on most people’s iPods.”
