One Direction songwriter Wayne Hector is to give a keynote address at the forthcoming Music Publishers Association (MPA) AGM.

Taking place on 4 July at The Royal Institution of Great Britain, London, Financial Times’ pop critic Ludovic Hunter-Tilney will interview the British songwriter as the centrepiece of an event focusing on the success of UK artists overseas.

Wayne has written more than 30 number one singles including hits for the likes of One Direction, The Wanted and Nicki Minaj. He will talk about his experiences in America and the role of UK publishers helping break acts overseas.

Jane Dyball, acting chief executive of the MPA, said: ‘British publishers have been leading the charge when it comes to the export of UK music overseas, and especially to the North American market.

‘We are therefore absolutely thrilled to have as our keynote interview one of this country’s most successful songwriters, and someone who encapsulates this phenomenal international success.’

According to UK Music’s Measuring Music recent report, the UK’s music publishing sector accounted for more than a quarter (£562m) of the entire music industry’s exports (£2.2bn) during 2013.
