Warner/Chappell Music has announced the appointment of Rob Owen to the newly created role of Vice President (VP), Creative, Catalogue and Marketing.

Owen is a senior marketing executive with more than 17 years’ experience in the music and entertainment industry.

In the new role, he will report to UK managing director Mile Smith and be responsible for championing Warner/Chappell’s songwriting catalogue.

Smith said: ‘It’s great to welcome Rob to our team. He’s a talented, collaborative and dedicated music person. I’ve often said that Warner/Chappell is the thread that connects great songwriters from Noël Coward to Skepta.

‘I’m as passionate about creating new opportunities for our song catalogue as I am about supporting our developing songwriters and I know that Rob will make a real impact in his new role.’

Owen added: ‘I’m delighted and excited to take up this amazing opportunity to champion the unrivalled catalogue at Warner/Chappell.

‘I’m very much looking forward to working with Mike Smith and the team in the UK and around the world. I’ve had the honour to work on numerous innovative, global marketing campaigns with incredible artists and their managers over the years and I can’t wait to bring that experience to bear on behalf of Warner/Chappell’s incredible songwriters. My door will very much be open for business.”

Owen began his career in 1999 working in a series of marketing and product roles for EMI Catalogue.

He subsequently joined Parlophone Records in 2003 as a senior product manager, rising to become marketing director in 2008.

During this time, he worked on campaigns for the label’s artists including Babyshambles, Gorillaz, Graham Coxon, John Lennon, Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen, Sir Paul McCartney, Queen, Sigur Ros, The Beatles and The Good, the Bad and the Queen.

Parlophone appointed Owen as vice president, marketing in 2010. While in the role, Owen and his team were nominated for and won Music Week’s Marketing Campaign of the Year several times for their work with Coldplay, Gorillaz, Lily Allen and Tinie Tempah.

He left Parlophone in 2015 and set up his own management and marketing consultancy, developing a broad roster of artists, producers and writers.
