The UK industry trade mission aims to open the door for British music businesses to explore the growing opportunities in the South American country.

The Department of International Trade (DIT) has partnered with the BPI and the Association of Independent Music (AIM) to bring the music mission to the world’s tenth largest economy.

The mission will take place from 2 to 8 December 2019 in São Paulo and will coincide with the city’s SIM music convention.

The music industry is growing rapidly in Brazil and the mission aims to facilitate collaboration, exploration and expansion of the British music industry in the country.

The programme includes education, networking, B2B meetings, conferences, showcases, site visits and other music related activities.

Artists, managers, promoters, record labels, music publishers, digital distribution companies, festival bookers/directors/organisers and promoters, covering all genres of music are encouraged to participate.

Paul Pacifico, chief executive, AIM, says: ‘We’re delighted to be partnering on this project, which will help to create shared opportunities with key players in the Brazilian market. In 2018, Brazil saw a massive 46% increase in streaming income, which has driven its rise to become the tenth largest recorded music market in the world. It’s clear that this is the perfect time to establish the valuable cultural and business connections which this trade mission will drive.’

Chris Tams, director of independent membership & international, BPI adds: ‘As the world’s leading exporter of music after the US, the UK music industry is well placed to help build new trade partnerships around the world, and Brazil is one of the most exciting new markets for British artists and labels.  The BPI is delighted to be working with DIT and AIM to help create openings and develop commercial opportunities for its members.’
