Legendary songwriter Ray Davies, of The Kinks fame, will be teaching up to 16 songwriters the craft of writing high quality popular music.

The course will take place at Dartington Hall in South Devon from 18 – 25 August 2012 and is for songwriters committed to producing quality popular music. It will be run by legendary songwriter Ray Davies of the Kinks, and poet and playwright Marion Wells , who have worked together for many years teaching a songwriting course at the Arvon Foundation.

Participants will write at least one song a day, either on their own or in collaboration with fellow students. If you can accompany yourself on an instrument this would be preferred, although applications will be considered from those who do not.

The course is for a maximum of 16 students and will involve a mix of 1:1 tuition and group work. There will also be opportunities for informal sharing of work during the week and a student performance at the end of the week.

This course is by application and is only open to students who have not previously attended a course run by Ray and Marion. Applications are welcome from all musical backgrounds.

To apply, you will need to complete a standard booking form and submit along with a recording of 2 songs you have written and a covering letter outlining your previous musical experience and explaining why you wish to participate in the course, by 28 May.
