A 15-year-old schoolboy from South London has won the BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition 2012, and is celebrating with a 15-pianist rendition for his school.

Freddie Meyers, a Music Scholar at Trinity is an trumpeter and pianist. His winning piece Three Apparitions was performed at the BBC Proms Young Composers Concert last week and will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on 16 August.

Trinity College in Croydon was recently the recipient of 15 brand new Steinway pianos and to celebrate, young maestro Meyers wrote a 30-hand composition, entitled Prologue 3x5.

All of the 15 Steinway pianos are due to be delivered together for the new term in September, where 15 pupils will play Meyer's composition.

Meyers commented: 'It’s such an honour to be asked to write music for this unique occasion. In my composition I have tried to bring out the excitement and majesty of these beautiful instruments arriving all at once at our school.'

Trinity School's Headmaster, Mark Bishop, said: 'We are extremely proud of Freddie and his wonderful achievement. It is especially gratifying that he has helped us celebrate the arrival of our fabulous new pianos with his new composition – it marks the occasion most appropriately'.

Meanwhile, Alex Woolf also won in the 12 - 16 Young Composer category for his piece Mermish, and Sarah Gait won in the 17 - 18 category for Portrait of a Moor.
