Sally Anne Gross and Dr. George Musgrave – the co-authors of the original report – and Professor Catherine Loveday, Neuropsychologist, University of Westminster intend to build on their research with a questionnaire that seeks to evaluate objective clinical measures of mental health and wellbeing amongst music industry workers.
The questionnaire is designed to follow up with more detailed qualitative work around autonomy, expectation, and artistic validation.
The researchers aim to reveal which factors are most influential to the mental health of industry workers with a view to improving and developing support in the industry.
The University of Westminster researchers are inviting all musicians and industry professionals to take part in the questionnaire to build on the biggest research topic in this area to bring about real change.
Last year the PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund teamed up with Help Musicians UK to support Music Minds Matter, a 24/7 support line especially for musicians, which offers free information, advice, listening, emotional support and signposting to additional services.
