Phonica, Sister Ray and Sounds of the Universe are among the central London record shops celebrating Record Store Day with a free music festival.
Taking place on Saturday 18 April on Berwick Street, the event will see a host of as yet unnamed artists perform live to mark the now annual celebration in the music industry calendar.
Phil Barton, owner of Sister Ray, said: ‘Vinyl records are the lifeblood of our street and we are proud to be part of Record Store Day.’
Berwick Street has been a destination for vinyl record collectors since the eightes when it became known as ‘The Golden Mile of Vinyl’.
This corner of Soho is still home to central London’s largest concentration of independent record shops; Sister Ray, Reckless Records, and the Music and Video Exchange as well as Sounds of the Universe around the corner on Broadwick Street and Phonica on Poland Street.
Record Store Day was established in 2007 when over 700 independent stores in the USA came together to celebrate their culture. The UK followed suit and 2013 will see the seventh celebration of the UK's unique independent sector.
