Blair Dunlop, Samatha Whates and Luke Jackson are among the acts performing at Folk Alliance International courtesy of backing from the PRS Foundation.
Taking place in Kansas 15-19 February, the event is an important one in the folk music diary, widely viewed as one of the most important conference and live music festivals in the world.
The three artists will be joined at the event by fellow PRS Foundation artists The Changing Room and The Jellyman’s Daughter.
Commenting on the backing, Samantha told the Foundation: ‘In the world of folk (and probably most things!) I’m a non-traditionalist. What I do is rooted in traditional folk song but I play around with structures and lyrics in somewhat different ways, I kind of follow my own path each time.
‘So I like that Folk Alliance has the bravery to programme people like me who hail from the wider music scene. It’s exciting to represent non-traditional folk music for PRS Foundation and Folk Alliance International.’
All five acts were funded via the Foundation’s International Showcase Fund.
The fund offers up to £5,000 of support for artists and bands based in England and Scotland who have been invited to play an international showcasing festival or conference.
All funding decisions are made by International Showcase Fund partners the PRS Foundation, Department for International Trade, British Underground, Arts Council England, PPL, Musicians’ Union, and Creative Scotland, in association with PledgeMusic.
