PRS chairman awarded OBE

Congratulations to Ellis Rich, the recently retired PRS chairman, who received an OBE for his services to music in the New Year's Honours List.

Congratulations to Ellis Rich, the recently retired PRS chairman, who received an OBE for his services to music in the New Year's Honours List.

Ellis was recognised for his work as a music publisher as well as discovering and developing the careers of numerous acts including chart-toppers Mel and Kim.

Robert Ashcroft, the chief executive of PRS for Music said: 'On behalf of the 75,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers we represent I am delighted that our recent chairman has been awarded in this way.

'Ellis has worked tirelessly for the music industry and has made a lasting contribution both to our organisation and the wider business, championing the cause of music publishers and songwriters at all levels.'

Other music industry figures and PRS for Music members were also in the Honours List. Songwriter and artist Annie Lennox was appointed OBE. The singer was honoured for her work to raise awareness and combat Aids and HIV in Africa through her Sing campaign.

Trevor Horn was made a CBE. The producer, songwriter and artist has created some of the most popular and influential records in the history of popular music.

Songwriter and musician Richard Thompson was given an OBE. A founder of Fairport Convention, the Ivor Novello award-winner recieves the award for his services to music.

Iver winner, Herbert Kretzmer, the lyricist of hits Goodness Gracious Me (Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren), She (Charles Aznavour) and the English version of the hit musical Les Misérables has also been awarded an OBE.
