Spanning two months, Roger Wright and his team aimed to create a festival of 'quality and accessibility', and also one of diversity. The first night on 13 July acted as a taster of what is to come, celebrating the best of English classical, with recitals of Coronation Ode (Elgar) and Suite for the Birthday of Prince Charles (Tippett).

From 20 to 27 of July, audiences and radio listeners can tune into a cycle of Beethoven's symphonies, delivered by the West Eastern Divan Orchestra and conducted by Italian conductor Daniel Barenboim, as part of a week long residency. It concludes with the 9th Symphony on the opening night of the Olympics.

There is truly something for everyone, from the centenary birthday of American experimental composer John Cage, a live performance by Il Divo, the music of Wallace & Gromit, a headlining performance from Kylie Minogue in September, and even orchestras and workshops families can participate in.

Tickets are available from just £5.
