Plan B, Coldplay and Mumford & Sons are to feature on a PledgeMusic compilation album in aid of Artists Project Earth, the charity focused on disaster relief and climate change.

The charity has put together the 14-track album, entitled Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa, with a range of artists, also including Beyoncé, Cee-Lo Green, Red Hot Chili Peppers, who have all submitted songs with an African twist.

PledgeMusic is one of a few services that provide artists with a direct-to-fan release platform, where fans can pre-purchase an album in return for special gifts like signed photos and special performances.

Popular with a lot of up and coming artists that may not have the support of a large label, it's part of a burgeoning grass roots movement.

Charity is at the heart of PledgeMusic, with proceeds above 100 percent the cost of launching the album going to a selected charity.

In traditional PledgeMusic style, pledgers who spend more than the asking price of Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa can lay their hands on posters, tote bags and even take part in an African drumming workshop.

Check out Rhythms Del Mundo's PledgeMusic page for more information.

Meanwhile Bruce Foxton, former bassist with The Jam, has also launched a PledgeMusic campaign to raise funds for his new album, which features guest appearances from Paul Weller, legendary guitarist Steve Cropper and his regular bandmates Russell Hastings and Mark Brzezicki.

Pledgers can receive signed copies of the album, VIP invites to the launch party, a signed electric guitar and even a round of golf with Foxton himself.
