Lauded pop songwriter and producer Linda Perry has signed a global publishing deal with peermusic.

She has also entered into a joint venture with the company to represent the publishing of her new record label, publishing and management enterprise We Are Hear Music.

Perry founded We Are Hear Music with her business partner Kerry Brown to create a music-centric community based around three recording studios and a vinyl pressing plant.

Perry’s first hit, What’s Up, for 4 Non Blondes back in 1992, was a number one single in several countries around the world.

Since then, she’s written songs for artists including Pink, Adele, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2015.

Both new deals with peermusic were co-signed by the publisher’s president and chief operating officer (Anglo American region) Kathy Spanberger, and European president and UK managing director Nigel Elderton.

Spanberger said: ‘Linda Perry is not only one of the most talented artists, writers and producers on the planet but her energy and vision for We Are Hear Music is inspiring. The artist-first philosophy that she and Kerry are shaping is something we do at peermusic as well, so I know we’re going to be great partners. Nigel and I are both huge believers in their approach and look forward to working with them on achieving success around the globe.’

Elderton added: ‘Linda has influenced a generation of songwriters and I’m a huge fan of her work. I’m thrilled Kathy and I were able to work together to bring Linda to peermusic as well as start what I’m sure will be a fruitful partnership with Linda, Kerry and the We Are Hear team. There are many exciting opportunities for them to succeed in the UK and global markets and it’s wonderful that peermusic will be a part of that.’

peermusic is the world’s largest global independent publishing company and operates 35 offices in 28 countries.

With well over a half million titles in the company’s catalogue, and songs that vary from country, blues, jazz and pop to Latin, concert and rock ‘n’ roll, peermusic is the largest privately owned company of its kind in the world.
