Hundreds of free gigs are to take place across the UK as part of the Our Big Gig live music celebration.
This community-led initiative, which runs 11-14 July, gives members of the public the opportunity to see free live music or get together themselves to put on their own events.
Local promoters and volunteers are putting on free shows thanks to funding secured from the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and Arts Council England.
Don Foster, Communities Minister, said: ‘These events will provide free music, entertainment and the chance for people right across the country to meet and get to know other residents of their city, town or village.
‘Last year 200,000 people attended free concerts over the closing weekend of the Paralympics, and just like the games themselves they brought people from all walks of life together.’
The project, which is organised by arts group Superact, follows the previous annual Bandstand Marathon events. The last event took place during the closing of the London 2012 Games with 9,000 people simultaneously performing Coldplay’s Viva La Vida across the UK.
Organisations can apply to host an Our Big Gig by www.ourbiggig.co.uk.
The full list of participating venues across the UK will be available to see online from 1 June.
