Kerry Andrew, Mira Calix and Bella Hardy have been announced as participants in the British Council and PRS for Music Foundation’s new Musicians in Residence programme.
The initiative will see the artists travel to three Chinese cities - Kunming (south west China), Nanjing (eastern China) and Zhengzhou (east-central China) - during autumn 2015.
While residents, the chosen acts will collaborate with local artists, write new material and explore creative and professional opportunities.
Kerry is a London-based composer specialising in experimental vocal music while Mira is an award-winning artist incorporating visual media into her work. Bella is a renowned folk singer, having won BBC Radio 2’s Folk Singer of the Year Award in 2014.
Vanessa Reed, PRS for Music Foundation executive director, said: ‘I am delighted that together with British Council we are supporting three exciting and talented musicians, Bella, Kerry and Mira, to have this unique international opportunity, to create new music and build new international connections.
‘I look forward to following how this experience contributes both to their creative development and their potential to reach new audiences.’
The Musicians in Residence - China programme was launched in September 2011, with Gareth Bonello, Imogen Heap, Jamie Woon and Matthew Bourne all taking part. Recent resident acts have included Oliver Coates, Sam Genders, Arun Ghosh, Anna Meredith and Sid Peacock.
This year’s residencies take place as part of the first ever UK-China Year of Cultural Exchange.
