Audio streaming platform Mixcloud has signed a licensing deal with ICE, the joint venture launched by PRS for Music and its German and Swedish collecting society counterparts.

The multi-territory agreement covers repertoire from over 290,000 PRS for Music, GEMA (Germany) and STIM (Sweden) members, plus some of Europe's leading independent music publishers.

Mixcloud currently has over 1.2 million creators and 12 million DJ sets, radio shows and podcasts featuring top artists including David Byrne, Carl Cox, Erykah Badu, David Guetta and Jazzy Jeff.

The service, which launched in Britain in 2008, boasts more than 17 million listeners every month.

It’s rights management system includes an audio fingerprinting tool built by its technology partner Gracenote, and a metadata analysis and engagement tracking system built-in house to power its reporting systems.

Nico Perez, the platform’s co-founder, said: ‘We're excited to confirm a full pan-European deal with ICE. Mixcloud has been supporting artists, songwriters and creators since the start, and we are proud to partner with ICE on this mission.’

Tim Rawlinson, head of licensing at ICE, added: ‘We’re pleased to be partnering with Mixcloud, a service whose interests are completely aligned with ours in maximising identification of compositions within the long-form content space.

‘The service offers a fantastic opportunity for the songwriters and publishers we represent to have their works feature in a diverse range of content and be properly paid for it. The new multi-year, multi-territory deal will help the service to continue to do just that as it grows.’

ICE has processed several billion online usages from digital service providers and distributed over €340m (£298m) back to its collective management organisation partners and publishers since 2016.
