MERCURY PRIZE 2017 ANNOUNCES SHORTLIST

Kate Tempest, Loyle Carner and Stormzy are among the nominated artists for the Hydundai Mercury Prize 2017.

Kate Tempest, Loyle Carner and Stormzy  are among the nominated artists for the Hydundai Mercury Prize 2017.

Other artists nominated include Sampha, Ed Sheeran, J Hus and Alt-J.

Half of those shortlisted - Blossoms, Dinosaur, Glass Animals, Kate Tempest, The Big Moon and Jamie xx (The xx) - have been funded by PRS for Music Foundation.

Tom Ravenscroft announced the shortlist live on BBC Radio 6 Music.

The awards show will be held at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith on Thursday, 14 September 2017 and will feature live performances from many of the twelve shortlisted artists.

BBC Two will also broadcast a preview documentary on the 2017 Prize in September.
