The hotly anticipated Barclaycard Mercury Prize Albums of the Year have been announced.

The Mercury Prize was created by the British Phonographic Industry and British Association of Record Dealers in 1992.

The  Albums of the Year shortlist is chosen by a panel of musicians, music industry figures and journalists in the UK and Ireland. The winner of the award will be announced at an awards show on Tuesday 6 September 2011.
