A large collection of brass players will perform together to celebrate the opening of Birmingham’s brand new library.
Together We Breathe will assemble local brass players from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds to commemorate the launch of the £188m centre, Europe’s largest civic building.
It was inspired by the traditional fanfare formed by Australian sound artists, Super Critical Mass.
The Library of Birmingham will see musicians, including staff and students from Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University, poised to play throughout the building on Tuesday 3 September. The public are invited to wander around the new facilities, accompanied by the brass playing.
Zoe Poyser, orchestral manager at Birmingham Conservatoire, said: ‘Together We Breathe should prove to be a great experience for visitors as the musical and visual impact encourages them to explore the new building.’
Other performers at the library’s opening event include young musicians from local schools and colleges, as well as ensembles from City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Filmed footage from the Together We Breathe project is due to feature on BBC’s The Culture Show on Wednesday 11 September.
