When it comes to the guitar, everyone knows who the legends and superstars are - Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck,  Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, Slash and the rest.

But who knows about Tommy Bolin, Charlie Batty, Neil Giraldo, Magic Sam, Emily Remler, Roy Clark, Jennifer Batten, Lonnie Mack, Jimmy Wyble?

They are among the hundreds of much lesser known players who have played with the world's best acts and have contributed vast numbers of licks, riffs, solos, tones, compositions, techniques and musical concepts that inspired generations of guitarists and advanced the art of playing guitar.

This book has been put together to recognise those unsung heroes. It consists of a series of interviews with these guitarists, a mix of contemporary and historical, taken from Guitar Player magazine.  Highlights include a 1978 interview with Rory Gallagher,  Terry Kath of Chicago talking in 1971, and Neil Giraldo, husband and lead guitarist for Pat Benatar, interviewed in 2004.

It's good to see the inclusion of some women too.  With 98% of Guitar Player subscribers being male, women are a rare breed in this field, as enthusiast or role models.  Jennifer Batten, who toured with Michael Jackson in the 1980s, is featured as is jazz guitarist Emily Remler, and a host of other female singer songwriters.
