Music at Bath Spa
The Music department of Bath Spa University offers courses in a number of different subject areas including Commercial Music and Songwriting. Staff in the department have plenty of practical and industrial experience and contribute to the strong reputation of the University's School of Music and Performing Arts. In the Research Assessment Exercise of 2008, 80% of the work submitted in Music was recognised internationally in terms of originality, significance and rigour, with 10% judged as being world-leading. You’ll help us build on this success in working towards REF.

The facilities are first class. In addition to our 50+ Apple Mac workstations (all equipped with Pro Tools, Logic Pro etc) we have five high-quality studios running Pro Tools HD. Our curriculum provides a solid foundation for music industry careers and includes songwriting, Intellectual Property & publishing, music production, live performance skills, touring, online promotion and research skills.

The time commitment
It will be vital for you to balance the different activities of your career. Therefore, we’ll ensure you have sufficient scholarly leave to carry out relevant research activities, which may be practice-based.

Your profile
Your experience of teaching in HE will have given you a profile as an innovative educator and researcher. You will have a strong interest in pedagogy and the ability to relate that to a wide range of musical styles and genres.

You will also have first-hand experience of the music industry. Your professional background will include one or more of the following: songwriting, studio/live production, arranging, performing and marketing. We want you to maintain and make the most of your professional links because experience has shown us that students respect teaching that is informed by direct, practical experience of the creative process.

You’ll also need to be an inspiring and engaging communicator, an effective organiser and a skilled networker.
