BBC Radio 1 and BBC Learning are running BBC Radio 1’s Academy to help inspire young people to take their first steps in a creative industries career.
Running 9-15 May in Norwich, the initiative is aimed at attendees aged 16-19 and will offer a range of practical workshops, Q & A sessions, industry panels and live music gigs.
Music will comprise one of six main strands to the initiative with solo artist and Rudimental collaborator Ella Eyre presenting a songwriting workshop, Lower Than Atlantis offering a guitar masterclass and broadcaster and DJ Annie Mac offering a more general music Q&A.
Ella Eyre said: ‘I’m really looking forward to being involved with BBC Radio 1’s Academy. Songwriting is something I love and it will be a lot of fun working with the students.’
Radio 1’s Live Lounge will be at the academy across the week with Lower than Atlantis, Ella Eyre and Jessie Ware set to perform. BBC Introducing will also run two nights showcasing artists handpicked by Huw Stephens and the finest home-grown music from Norfolk.
Tickets for Radio 1’s Academy are free and will be available from Saturday 25 April when the full programme timetable is announced.
Young people living locally in Norfolk and the surrounding areas, or the rest of the UK, can apply for tickets online at bbc.co.uk/radio1/academy.
Radio 1’s Academy will open its doors in the lead up to the station’s flagship live music event, Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2015 taking pace at Earlham Park on 23-24 May.
