Ivor Novello Awards 2016 announces nominations

Skepta, Wolf Alice, James Bay and Jamie xx are among the nominees lined up for the Ivor Novello Awards 2016.

Skepta, Wolf Alice, James Bay and Jamie xx are among the nominees lined up for the Ivor Novello Awards 2016.

BASCA, in association with PRS for Music, has announced the nominations for the 61st Ivor Novello Awards. The awards will take place on Thursday 19 May at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.

The PRS for Music Most Performed Work category sees James Bay’s Hold Back The River, Hold My Hand by Jess Glynne and King by Years & Years up against each other.

Wolf Alice (Bros) and Jamie Lawson (Wasn’t Expecting That) will battle it out in the Best Song Musically and Lyrically with the Ed Sheeran and Rudimental collaboration Bloodstream.

Skepta and his grime anthem Shutdown is listed in Best Contemporary Song alongside Cargo by rapper Roots Manuva and All My Friends by Snakehips, feat Tinashe and Chance The Rapper.

Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury's soundtrack to Ex_Machina, John Powell's Pan and The Duke of Burgundy by Faris Badwan and Rachel Zeffira are named in the Best Original Film Score­­­­­­­­­­­­ category.

Stephen McNeff, BASCA chairman, said: ‘The Ivors were created to celebrate the best in British and Irish songwriting and composing.  As we move into our 61st year BASCA is delighted that these nominations reflect the health and diversity of UK music and include a raft of first-time nominees alongside past winners. Congratulations to everyone represented here today.’

Other awards to be announced at the event include International Achievement, Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Song Collection, PRS for Music Outstanding Contribution to British Music, PRS for Music Special International Award, The Ivors Classical Music Award and The Ivors Inspiration Award.

The awards take place on Thursday 19 May from 11.30am to 4.30pm at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.

The Ivor Novello Awards were created by BASCA in 1956 and named in honour of Ivor Novello, Britain’s most successful and distinguished theatrical composer at the time. They were set up to celebrate the excellence of British songwriters and composers and have been sponsored by PRS for Music since 1974.
