The Invisible’s Dave Okumu is to release Oceans of Purple, a tribute to the late Prince with all proceeds going to music charity Nordoff Robbins.
The track, written by Dave and featuring additional vocals from Jamie Woon, will be the first on the Invisible frontman’s new Ruby Moons label.
Oceans of Purple will be released on 25 June, the same day as Prince’s seminal Purple Rain was first debuted back in 1984. It has been announced today (7 June), what would have been Prince's 58th birthday.
Commenting on the track, Dave said: ‘Raw and refined, he [Prince] resides in my spirit as an emblem for free and fearless expression.
‘Even beyond the grave, through his overwhelming contribution to culture, Prince challenges me to go deep into my inspiration and not to be dictated to by external factors. In recent years, through the loss of my mother, I have learned that death can't contain love. As I confront the grief of losing my hero, I rejoice in the fact that I will spend the rest of my years floating in an ocean of purple.
All proceeds from the sale of the single will be donated to specialist music charity Nordoff Robbins.
Look out for our forthcoming interview with Dave on the latest Invisible album, Patience.
