IDLES named Live Act of the Year

Bristol five-piece IDLES have snatched the Live Act of the Year gong at the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) Awards.

Bristol five-piece IDLES have snatched the Live Act of the Year gong at the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) Awards.

They beat Frank Carter, Loyle Carner, Yonaka and Oh My God! It’s The Church to the top prize at a ceremony in Cardiff last night (Monday).

Other winners included Womb with a view at Shambala (Unique Festival Arena), Secret Garden Party (Best Smart Marketing), Aespia (New Festival on the block) and Nozstock The Hidden Valley (mind blowing spectacle).

In addition, Secret Garden Party founder Freddie Fellowes received the inaugural Pioneer Award in acknowledgement to his dedication the UK festival scene.

The Act of Independence Award went to Amal for its Muslim artistry venue and programme, and its focus on Palestinian festival programming.

Nominations were put forward to AIF’s 65 member festivals and then determined by a steering group vote.
