Landmark music pub The Horn Reborn in St Albans, Hertfordshire, is putting up a fight against mounting costs and the effects of the recession to continue putting on live gigs.

The pub, which provided the likes of Paul Young, The Subways, Gallows and Enter Shikari with their first gigs have launched a 'Save the Horn campaign' and are seeking help from local builders to improve the layout of the venue. The Horn's managers Hansi and Adrian are also on the lookout for an assistant promoter.

The management have admitted that times are tough for the venue, which a 37-year history of live music, saying: 'We don't need to tell you how difficult it is out there for the pub trade in the UK, we are all fighting hard to ride out the dreaded recession. We are no different to anyone else and things are very tough with high rents and extortionate utilities bills... our electric bill went from £5k a year to £11k in the space of 4 years!

'We have hung in there for last 4 years but we are feeling the pressure and things are really tough so the team here at The Horn have had a brain storming session and we have decided to do whatever it takes to get through this.'

The Horn Reborn was crowned Music Pub of the year in 2008 and 2009.
