Manchester’s Halle Orchestra will close this summer’s Live From Jodrell Bank series with a concert inspired by space.

Taking place on 31 August, conductor Stephen Bell will lead the orchestra through performances of compositions linked to the stars and planets.

Jupiter and Mars from Holst's The Planets, classics from Strauss, Mozart and John Williams, as well as a selection of film music from blockbusters such as Star Wars and E.T. will all be performed during the evening.

Both participants and attendees at the concert will also have the opportunity to celebrate the life and work of Sir Bernard Lovell, Founder and first Director of the Jodrell Bank Observatory - he passed away on 31 August in 2012.

Conductor Stephen Bell said: It will be a huge pleasure to conduct the magnificent Halle in such a brilliant and unique setting as Jodrell Bank.

‘We'll play some of the most exciting music there is, and nothing beats hearing a world-class symphony orchestra playing at the top of their game. It will be an unforgettable evening.’

The Halle’s performance is part of a four night series across the summer taking place at Jodrell Bank.

On 6 July, The Australian Pink Floyd will perform a celebration of the 40th anniversary of The Dark Side of The Moon while New Order will curate an evening of live music the following night.

A gig on 30 August will be headlined by Icelandic rock band Sigur Ros.
