Gareth Malone, choir master and broadcaster, is to receive the PPL Classical Award at this year’s O2 Silver Clef Awards.
He will be presented with the prize at the event on Friday 4 July at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
After his three-part BBC documentary The Choir in 2006, Gareth is best known for The Choir: Military Wives in 2011. The programme saw Gareth give a voice to the wives and girlfriends left behind when troops were deployed to Afghanistan and led to a chart topping single and album - Whereever You Are and In My Dreams in 2011 and 2012.
Gareth said he was honoured to be receiving such a prestigious award.
‘Bringing people closer to music and using music as a tool for enhancing life has always been a passion of mine. Music is central to Nordoff Robbins and so is wonderful for me to be honoured by this charity who are able to bring music to people in a unique and special way,’ he explained.
Gareth joins the likes of Pharrell Williams and Paloma Faith in being honoured at this year’s event.
Pharrell will be presented with the Raymond Weil International Award and Paloma Faith will receive the Royal Albert Hall Best British Act Award
italian electronic producer Giorgio Moroder will also be honoured at this year’s event with the American Express Innovation Award.
