The policy, which is in effect from 2 - 5 June inclusive, hopes to help communities all across the UK enjoy the benefits of music to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s reign.

Keith Gilbert, Director of Public Performance Sales, PRS for Music said: 'We want to help the nation enjoy this historic royal occasion and not have to worry about paying for our licence for small public celebrations during this period. Music is the perfect accompaniment for any street party, creating a positive and happy atmosphere, helping celebrate Her Majesty’s 60 years on the throne. During her reign UK music has taken the world by storm and any one of the many decades can provide the perfect music for a party.'

PRS for Music represents 85,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers, collecting and paying royalties when their music is played, performed or reproduced. Many of its members earn a vital living for their creative talent through public plays of their music both in the UK and internationally.

PRS for Music is contacting all local authorities to inform them of the temporary policy and more details can be found at: www.prsformusic.com/diamondjubilee
