Free gigs on the Thames

The BT River of Music festival takes place on Saturday 12 May and Sunday 22 May at a variety of landmarks along the River Thames. The free events take place a week before the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony to welcome the world to London.

The BT River of Music festival takes place on Saturday 12 May and Sunday 22 May at a variety of landmarks along the River Thames.

The free events take place a week before the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony to welcome the world to London.

Six stages at world famous sites will host performers from all over the globe: Asia Stage – Battersea Park, Europe Stage – Somerset House, Europe Stage – Trafalgar Square, Americas Stage – Tower of London, Oceania Stage – Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich and Africa Stage – London Pleasure Gardens, Docklands.

Scissor Sisters will be headlining the Americas Stage, whilst the Alif ensemble, Arun Ghosh and Kronos Quartet are lined up on the Asia Stage. British saxophonist and bandleader Andy Sheppard will be performing oat one of the two Europe Stages alongside Matthew Herbert’s Russian Big Band. The Oceana Stage hosts alternative Welsh folk band 9Bach and Coastal Voices - a project that brings chorists Dorset and Devon. Music legends Angelique Kidjo, Baaba Maal, Hugh Masekela, King Sunny Ade will perform on the Africa Stage alongside Justin Adams and The Noisettes.
