The social media giant has secured deals with US collecting society SESAC’s Rumblefish licensing initiative, Kobalt Music Publishing and US-based Global Music Rights (GMR).
The new deals follow hot on the heels of the recent agreements with publishing heavyweights Sony/ATV and UMG, and helps position the platform as a more viable destination for music creators and rightsholders.
Tamara Hrivnak, head of business development at Facebook, said in a blog post, of the deals: ‘These partnerships will create new music-related experiences on our platforms for users, artists and songwriters and build stronger and more connected communities around music.
She continued: ‘Songs and songwriters lie at the very heart of the magic of music. Each one has the power to connect with people, moments and messages.
‘Facebook values the talent of independent writers and music publishers and we’ve been busy working with independent music publishers, who have played an important role in partnering with Facebook on behalf of songwriters.’
GMR’s deal with Facebook is the first-ever user generated content licence the organisation has granted. It includes songs from Bruce Springsteen, Drake, Pharrell Williams and Bruno Mars.
Irving Azoff, who founded GMR, said: ‘Our partnership with Facebook reflects that when music is valued properly, it’s easy for both sides to view it as a win-win.’
