UK jazz scene group Empirical have partnered with Kings Place to curate part of the 2017 Jazz at Kings Place programme.

The jazz outfit, who initially formed in 2007, feature Nathaniel Facey (alto sax), Tom Farmer (double bass), Lewis Wright (vibraphone) and Shaney Forbes (drums).

According to Kings Place, ‘the series features special one-off collaborations and premieres of new projects and each concert will offer a distinct and fresh take on jazz.

‘Empirical also want to foster a sense of a community that brings together artists who don’t shy away from taking creative risks and presenting challenging music to listeners.’

The first gig takes place on 3 February with Jean Toussaint and Jason Rebello will lead this inaugural concert with a unique and intimate duo performance featuring original material.

Empirical have enjoyed a successful year, receiving the award for Best Jazz Act at the 2016 Urban Music Awards and Best Jazz Ensemble at the 2016 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
