Lucy McPhee, Daniel-Wyn Jones, Tanya Dower and David Roche are among the composers selected for Ty Cerdd’s new CoDI career development programme.
A total of 14 Welsh-based composers have been chosen to participate in the initiative, which aims to create a community of Welsh composers, promote shared learning and collaboration, and provide creative opportunities.
The artists’ call was made in June across three categories - Chamber, Electronic and Theatre - with successful applicants receiving paid creative development opportunities.
Other composers selected for the programme include Nathan Dearden, Carlijn Metselaar, Sarah Lianne Lewis and Mark McNamee in the Chamber category.
They will work with composer Lynne Plowman and the Berkeley Ensemble over a series of workshops to create new works for performance at Cardiff University School of Music chamber music series in April 2019.
Composers including Poumpak Charuprakorn, Kirsten Evans and Richard McReynolds were selected for the Electronic strand for a similar workshop model with Swansea Laptop Orchestra. This will culminate in a public performance at the Bangor Music Festival in February 2019.
CoDI Composer Pathways is funded by support from Arts Council of Wales and the PRS Foundation, with whom Ty Cerdd is one of 40 Talent Development Partners across the UK.
In addition, PRS for Music is supporting the Chamber strand, in line with its work to develop the careers of composers around the UK.

‘The 14 composers selected for Chamber, Electronic and Theatre represent a range of styles and backgrounds, and we’re excited to get going with the three projects in September.
