MusicTank’s first session of the year will explore the economics of music streaming with Billy Bragg.
The singer songwriter and activist’s inclusion in the event is very timely - he became active in the streaming debate towards the end of 2013 after claiming that labels should be questioned about the royalties artists receive from the likes of Spotify and Deezer rather than the streaming services themselves.
MusicTank’s event, which takes place on 7 April, will look to uncover the financial figures surrounding music streaming and how artists get paid.
Keith Harris, chairman of the organisation, said: ‘Streaming represents a significant shift in the way people consume music, and as a new model its growing prevalence cannot be ignored. If this is to be the future, then all parties need to understand how they will come to be paid, and that’s an area that for many artists is still unclear.
‘It is our hope that with the input of our expert speakers, MusicTank can help shed some light on this subject.’
