The eleven-strong band, including a four-piece brass section and six vocalists, are regular winners at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and have become one of Britain’s most successful folk acts over their 10 years together.
They have just completed their fifth studio album – and their first for Island.
Entitled Revival, it is slated for release on Island’s Pink label, renowned in the seventies for legendary folk acts such as Fairport Convention, John Martyn and Nick Drake.
Revival will drop on 23 June and the band will support its release with a full month of gigs in August.
The band said in a statement: ‘We are incredibly excited and proud to have just been signed to the great Island Records, the coolest of all record labels with an incredible reputation across folk and then Bob Marley onto U2. It’s the perfect new home for us.’
Jon Turner, managing director of Island Records said: ‘Island Records rich history includes the best of British folk music: Fairport Convention John Martyn, The Incredible String Band and many more. We’re delighted that in 2014, Bellowhead’s new record will be adding to that story.’
