Organisers have just announced the full programme, which includes a ‘grime symphony’ with Wretch 32 and Krept & Konan, in conjunction with BBC Radio 1Xtra, and a BBC Radio 4 Prom based on Cocker's Wireless Nights series.

New works to be premiered during the season include a newly discovered work by Messiaen, James MacMillan’s Symphony No. 4 and a new string quartet by Colin Matthews.

The festival will also premiere a Last Night commission from Eleanor Alberga and works from Michael Finnissy, Alissa Firsova, Shiori Usui and Hugh Wood.

Sir David Attenborough will also make an appearance, narrating a Prom inspired by his Life Story TV series.

This year’s festival will also see a coming-together of normally disparate musical genres when DJ Pete Tong celebrates 20 years of Radio 1 in Ibiza with a concert underpinned by Jules Buckley and the Heritage Orchestra.

Meanwhile, BBC 6 Music’s Mary Anne Hobbs is to present a reimagining of classical music by Nils Frahm and A Winged Victory for the Sullen, and the Asian Network brings a new wave of contemporary Asian and Bollywood artists collaborating with the BBC Philharmonic.

Marin Alsop will return to the Last Night podium to lead the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Singers and BBC Symphony Chorus in the festival’s finale, alongside soloists soprano Danielle de Niese, tenor Jonas Kaufmann and pianist Benjamin Grosvenor.

Last Night events will also take place in Hyde Park, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Opening at the Royal Albert Hall on 17 July, The Proms will present 92 concerts until it closes on 12 September.

Now in its 120th year, The Proms is the world’s largest and longest running music festival.
