The English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) has opened its Alan James Creative Bursary and Residency Programme for 2019/20.
Now in its seventh year, the scheme aims to support artists in exploring new creative ideas inspired by, and sourced from, traditional English folk music.
The programme provides music-makers with an opportunity to undertake creative exploration without the pressure of a final product.
Every residency is unique, with artists from all genres and at all stages of their career encouraged to apply.
A bursary of up to £2,000 each will be available to three successful applicants, plus access to research facilities at Vaughan Williams Memorial Library and up to five days of rehearsal space at Cecil Sharp House, London.
EFDSS has renamed its longstanding bursary scheme to the Alan James Creative Bursary and Residency Programme this year, in honour of the organisation’s former chair, who died suddenly in April.
In the spirit of James’ eclectic musical tastes and his ability to foster artistic collaborations, EFDSS is particularly interested in receiving applications which explore English folk music in the context of cross-genre or cross-art form collaborations and explorations.
