Adele and her latest album 25 are set to make chart history after achieving one of the largest amount of first day record sales.
According to the Official Charts Company, the LP, which was released on Friday 20 November, reached 300,000 sales after just 24 hours on sale.
This figure is based on initial sales tallies from the UK's chart-reporting retailers and puts the album on course to rival the biggest one-week album sales the UK has ever seen.
Martin Talbot, OCC chief executive, said: ‘Adele truly is a once in a generation artist. Her appeal spans age groups and genres, from children to teenagers, right through to mums and dads, uncles and aunties.
‘With this mammoth first day sales tally, Adele has taken a further step towards greatness. Over the next few days we will find out whether it can pass the magic half a million sales mark.’
Two albums have sold more than 500,000 copies in a week. They are Take That’s Progress which sold 518,601 in its debut week in November 2010. Oasis’s Be Here Now, the Manchester’s band third album, is the all-time record holder after shifting 695,761 copies in its first chart week in August 1997.
