Adele and PJ Harvey are among the musicians to be awarded by the Queen in her Birthday Honours List.

The Someone Like You songwriter will be presented with an MBE at Buckingham Palace on Thursday 19 December, making her full title Miss Adele Adkins.

Adele has received countless awards over the past 18 months after selling millions of copies of her 19 and 21 albums. Her accolades include an Oscar for best song for her James Bond theme Skyfall and a Grammy for best pop solo performance for Set Fire To The Rain.

Mercury Music Prize winning singer songwriter PJ Harvey will also receive an MBE alongside broadcaster Aled Jones and author Joanne Harris.

Both musicians are believed to be working on new material which could see the light of day next year.

Meanwhile, last week Adele's album 21 was named as the best selling record on online retailer Amazon.

The record has been certified platinum 16 times in the UK and achieved diamond status in the US while 28 million copies of the album have been sold worldwide.
