There’s definitely something in the air in Birmingham right now. For the past 18 months, Britain’s second city has been awash with reverberating guitars, beguiling melodies and straight-up indie clout.

But it’s not all hype and hot air. Bands like Peace and Swim Deep, who began playing together around the pubs and clubs of Digbeth, have gone on to secure top 20 chart positions for their debut albums.

JAWS, a quartet cut from the same sunny surf-guitar mould, are surely next in line. Over the last year and a half, they’ve been responsible for some of the most bouncy, nostalgic guitar-pop around.

The sophisticated songcraft on early demos Cameron, Holy Cat and Daze won them instant acclaim and attracted parallels with high-flying WU LYF.

With a new 11-track album, Be Slowly, due to land on 15 September, and an intimidating live schedule over the summer (dates below), it looks like JAWS are keen to sink their teeth into 2014.

We caught up with them at the PRS for Music Foundation Momentum Fund showcase at The Great Escape, to record them perform the title track from the album.
