To mark May Day, we've compiled our top protest songs. While 1 May is associated with morris dancers, may poles and the start of spring, the date is also known as International Workers Day. For many the holiday has more to do with protest and the fight for an eight hour working day than pagan fertility.

To mark this, we've put together many of our favourite protest songs. We've featured tracks from a diverse range of artists including Kate Bush, Public Enemy, Billie Holiday and Sinead O'Connor.
