Felix Howard is Head of A&R and SVP of European Creative for EMI Music Publishing in the UK.  He signed Calvin Harris, Sam Sparro, Beverley Knight, Hurts, James Vincent McMorrow and Tinchy Stryder, amongst many others. An established songwriter, Felix has written songs for many artists including Amy Winehouse, Sugababes and Sia.

M caught up with him to find out what’s tickling his ears right now:

Tyler the Creator / Yonkers

Thank god hip hop is scary again. Yes the album is patchy and yes it’s all a bit juvenile but I still love it.

Mona / Trouble On The Way

They are a brilliant band. Go see them live.

Louise and The Pins / Brown Eyes

This is a heartbreaker. Music to stare out of windows forlornly to.

Lianne La Havas / Don't Wake Me Up

This girl is the real thing. Go see her live. Lovely.

Lana Del Rey / Video Games

Lana is a giant star waiting to happen. This song melts people.

Elvis Costello / Green Shirt (Demo Version)

‘You can please yourself but somebody’s gonna get it.’

Rob Bravery / Old Theatre Trick

He’s like Elliott Smith and Rufus Wainwright and Ben Folds and I love him.

Rufus Wainwright / Want

‘I don’t want to make it rain, I just want to make it simple.’  I could have picked any of his because he’s a giant.

Hurts/ The Water

This is the highlight of the album for me, and these guys have just started.

James Vincent McMorrow / Hear The Noise That Moves So Soft and Low

James is my brother and my friend.

Queens of the Stone Age  /  Feel Good Hit of The Summer

NicotineValiumVicodinMarijuanaEcstasy&Alcohol... Oh ok then.

Calvin Harris & Kelis / Bounce

He’s back! He’s bouncy!

Ruby Goe / Siren

Brilliant, smart, watch her. She’s not taking any prisoners.

Bob Dylan / Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie

He changed my life. I spent hours reciting this as a 17 year old.
