YolanDa Brown has gone from teaching herself to play along to the radio at her parent's house in east London to becoming one of the UK's top jazz saxophonists.

Brown's debut album, April Showers May Flowers has topped both the iTunes and Amazon Jazz Charts and she has played with the likes of The Temptations, Soweto Kinch and Jools Holland.

YolanDa was also the first recipient of a grant from PRS for Music Foundation's Women Make Music initiative, which she used to develop her vocal abilities and piano playing, creating a new song, Blue Sky which premiered at the Jazz Cafe in London.

Watch our interview with YolanDa, where the saxophonist discusses the importance of improvised music, her work with young people and the Women Make Music initiative. You can also take another look at YolanDa in action, performing a special version of her song Dear John.
