South-east London rapper and entrepreneur ShaoDow doesn't do things by halves.

Not content with releasing three albums (the latest which comes with a Manga comic book, no less) and opening shows for the likes of Stormzy, Skepta, Tech N9ne, Wiley and Akala, the enterprising performer finds time to run his own merchandise and headphone brand through his company DIY Gang Entertainment.

In the five years since his debut, Cut The BullSpit, the hip hop and grime artist has remained fiercely independent, singlehandedly selling over 25,000 copies of his albums without a label and touring the UK and Europe.

His razor-sharp rapping has received strong rotation via BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra and Kerrang! Radio, while his debut Fire in the Booth session on Charlie Sloth's 1Xtra show has clocked up over 33,000 YouTube views and counting.

The martial arts-trained law grad was hailed as 'one of the hardest working rappers’ in the industry' by 1Xtra's DJ Semtex and that reputation has no doubt been further cemented with his 2017 AIM Award for Hardest Working Band or Artist.

We caught up with Shao at the awards to find out how he has carved his own distinct path...
