‘It’s really nice that this award is about songwriting specifically. Often it can be about other stuff in the industry, and songwriting is what we do this for,’ says Let’s Eat Grandma’s Rosa Walton.

The alt-pop duo attended the 64th edition of the Ivor Novello awards last Thursday (23 May) where they were nominated for the Best Album award.

Childhood friends Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth released their debut album, I Gemini, in 2016, which demonstrated their unique and uncanny take on pop filtered through the lens of freak-folk.

While still teenagers, Let’s Eat Grandma followed that record up with the critically acclaimed I’m All Ears.

Preceded by the singles Hot Pink and Ava, the album displayed a development in their music that embraced a more reined approach while staying true to their preternatural talents.

A year after its release, I’m All Ears became one of The Ivors Best Album nominations alongside Young Fathers’ Cocoa Sugar and Idles’ Joy as an Act of Resistance, which ultimately took home the gong.

Ahead of the ceremony, we caught up with the duo on The Ivors red carpet to get their take on the nomination, why they think it’s an exciting time for music in the UK, and where they get their inspiration from…
