‘Songwriting is the moment of fantasy. It’s a wonderful, big, open book,’ says pop noir queen Alison Goldfrapp.

It’s a view that’s served her - and partner in crime Will Gregory – well, keeping them off the straight and narrow since they first began working together in the late nineties.

Together, they blend the imaginary with the real, glam-rock with disco, to create a catalogue of glitzy pop and immersive soundscapes that ooze sass.

Now with six albums under their belts, they’ve explored pastoral folk sounds, razor sharp synth-pop and the outer limits of avant-garde songwriting, building a back catalogue as diverse as their influences.

Testament to their ongoing relevance, their latest album, Tales of Us, picked up the Album of the Year accolade at the MPG Awards last week.

We were on hand to chat to Alison, Will and producer Craig Silvey about the art of songwriting and recording…
